Gilbert McCabe - Chairman

Gilbert McCabe is an international businessman, consultant with wide experience in USA, Asia and Europe. Gilbert has a particular focus on leadership leading to individual empowerment and development within both private and public sector. Previously has been non-executive director of Cornwall Development Company's predecessor and Chairman of the former actnow Cornwall broadband partnership steering committee.

Ray Tovey - Vice-Chairman

Ray Tovey is the Cornwall council elected member for Gwinear-Gwithian and St Erth. He Chairs the Audit Committee at Cornwall Council, and is Vice-Chair of the Adult Education Service Board of Governors; and of Newlyn Harbour Commission. His working career was in graphic design, both as practitioner and principal lecturer; ultimately as Head of Study of Communication Design at Falmouth College of Arts, then as national quality assurance and curriculum lead for the major examination awarding body. Since retirement, Ray has specialised in writing community, town, and parish regeneration plans. A keen surfer and motorcyclist, Ray has also won a number of national awards in marathon canoe racing in the not-too-distant past.  

Kevin Bennetts

Kevin Peter Bennetts born 3rd May 1949 Redruth, grew up on the family farm and went fishing at 18, obtained DTI 2nd Hand Special certificate in 1978 came ashore in 1986 to start a fuel business which has become a significant local supplier employing 16 staff. Now also the owner of Ben Loyal WK3 and a director of a fishing company. Firmly believe that Newlyn can once more become a top fishing Port and very proud to be involved with my fellow Commissioners in making that happen.

Glenn Caplin

Glenn Caplin is Deputy Head of Economic Development at Cornwall Council and  has a background in economic development, regeneration and European  funding. Educated at Camborne School and Kingston University, Glenn  has a B.A. Hons in Social and Economic History and is also a Board Member of the South West Investment Group (SWIG).

John Lambourn

John Stove Lambourn - Born 24th June 1946 Mousehole. Married with four children. Resident Newlyn. Retired.  1963 – 1978 Merchant Navy . 1978 – 1997 Marine Department, Hong Kong Government.  Chairman Penzance Futures Association. Vice Chairman Cornwall Towns Association. Chairman West Cornwall Lugger Industry Trust Ltd. Owner sailing fishing lugger Ripple SS19. Trustee Penwith Community Development Trust.

Mike Collier MBE

Mike Collier was educated in Truro and at HMS Conway MN Cadet School on Anglesey. Served a Cadetship with Ellerman’s Hall Line followed by a varied career at sea with Stevenson Clarks, Hudson Steamship Co and with Greek owners. He then went into the offshore oil industry initially with Offshore Marine and latterly in command of various vessels with Zapata Marine Service. Subsequently “came ashore” with Zapata, based in Egypt, Houston, Sicily and Ivory Coast followed by a short spell with a dry dock company before a becoming a part owner of a small survey vessel in West Africa. Joined HM Coastguard in Belfast, and also served at Stornoway before coming back to Falmouth before moving out to the Isles of Scilly as Sector Manager. Was promoted to be a Fishing Vessel Surveyor based in Newlyn in 1999. Mike is now responsible for Fishing Vessel Survey and Inspection from Looe around to Ilfracombe and also for some of the Anglo Spanish fleet in Northern Spain. Mike was honoured with an MBE in May 2007 for Services to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.        

Nick Howell

Nick Howell's professional life has centred around processing and marketing fish from Newlyn. Nick admires innovation, efficiency, integrity and those who can work in partnership and believse that Newlyn's on-shore and off-shore communities have yet to reach their full potential. As a Commissioner Nick will help provide the framework to make that happen.

David Munday

David Munday was born in Redruth, educated at Redruth Grammar School and Portsmouth Polytechnic, degree in biology. Worked in agrochemical research, before going full time fishing, on boat jointly owned with my brother, skippered under and over 10m vessels. Have worked for the last 18 years for the governments fisheries depts - currently Marine Management Organisation.

Andrew Munson

Andrew Munson was appointed Clerk to the Harbour Commissioners in 1973 and Harbour Master in 1978. He is also the Honorary French Consul for Cornwall and the Penlee Lifeboat Operations Manager responsible for the operation of the lifeboat and station.

David Stevens

David Stevens has been a fisherman since leaving school in 1965. His boat is family owned called Crystal  Sea . It is a 21m twin rig trawler based in Newlyn. It is skippered by his two sons on alternate trips. David came ashore from going to sea on a full time basis 5 years ago. He now runs the shore side of the business mending the nets and quota management issues and many other general weekly issues relating to the business. Apart from recently being voted on the Harbour Commissioners Board heis on the Cornish Sea Fisheries Committee and a committee member on the local Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen

Elizabeth Stevenson

Elizabeth stevenson is partner of the W S Stevensons & Sons, the owners of the largest fishing fleet in Newlyn and a family with a long history of business, property and community support in Newlyn, who represents the largest employer in Newlyn, is supplied by over 60 companies and acts as agent to a further 120 vessels employing 210 sea going men and many more onshore. Elizabeth has said that she wants to help Newlyn move forward, but this must also be in the interests of the fishing industry.

Juliet Taylor

B.A. Hons in  History (Exon). Professional career in architectural and interior design, project  management and security planning for large Estates. Managing Director of multidisciplinary design Company for the last 21 years. Holds a current Commission to the House of Commons and Lords, for whom has completed hundreds of projects. Juliet has lived on and off in Cornwall since 1978, has a design studio at Newlyn Harbour Design Centre, her new retail venture. Juliet hopes to advise NPHC on realising their Estate Asset potential historically and for the future. Juliet is passionate about the fishing industry and enjoys lobster potting.
